Summary

This is our newest program, starting in January 2024.
This is a cooking class where participants make their own sushi under the guidance of an instructor who is fluent in English.
Sushi making is inherently a difficult dish that requires a great deal of skill, but using simple utensils, even first-timers can make beautifully shaped sushi.

Details

We will make the following three types of sushi and eat them ourselves.

1 Hosomakizushi (thinly sliced ingredients such as cucumber and tuna, wrapped in rice, and then wrapped in nori seaweed)
2. Gunkan-zushi (hardened rice topped with ingredients such as salmon roe, cod roe, and negitoro, then wrapped in nori seaweed)
3 Nigiri-zushi (hardened rice topped with ingredients such as tuna, shrimp, white fish, etc.)
Two kits of easy-to-use sushi making tools for beginners will be available as souvenirs to take home.

In this program, participants will learn and practice hand washing and other sanitary practices that absolutely do not cause infections or food poisoning. Then, we will start making sushi. In a restaurant, sushi is made quickly by a chef, whose beautiful handiwork is both artistic and impressive.
After making the sushi, we eat the sushi ourselves. During and after the meal, the instructor will talk about vinegar, gari, wasabi, and other condiments related to sushi, as well as Japanese dining etiquette.
All instructors have a high level of English (French, etc.) language skills, making the conversation very enjoyable.
*There is a possibility that the group will be combined with other groups.

The venue for the sushi experience will be the Grand TJT, located in the Japan Society for the Promotion of Machine Industry building, a one-minute walk north of the Tokyo Tower. It is a government-certified sanitary facility with water supply, drainage, refrigeration, etc.
In this class, you will learn how to cook sushi rice and how to mix vinegar for sushi. In this class, you will not only learn how to make sushi, but also learn the culture related to sushi.

You will also learn how to use real wasabi (a vegetable), which is indispensable for sushi.
